Le concept d’immersion théâtrale rencontre aujourd’hui un succès grandissant, tant auprès des artistes que des chercheurs. Combiner les notions d’immersion et d’interactivité semble aller de soi lorsque l’on évoque le théâtre immersif, pour certains artistes, théoriciens ou journalistes, pour qui le spectateur est invité à habiter l’espace du spectacle. Est-il pourtant si naturel de combiner ces deux notions ? Comment combiner le développement d’une histoire, fut-elle non linéaire, et une organisation interactive ? Dans cet article, Catherine Bouko propose de traiter les rapports entre théâtre immersif et interactivité en trois points. Dans un premier temps, elle définit la notion d’interactivité, afin d’insister sur ce qu’elle est… et sur ce qu’elle n’est pas. Ensuite, elle présente rapidement une définition du théâtre immersif. Dans un troisième temps, elle aborde trois techniques dramaturgiques visant essentiellement une personnalisation des spectacles immersifs, sans pour autant toujours atteindre l’interactivité et une véritable intégration dans une image habitable.
