Les bibliothèques de la santé se trouvent dans les hôpitaux, dans les universités et dans divers organismes s’occupant de santé. Certaines fournissent de la documentation qui peut avoir un effet de vie ou de mort, d’autres contribuent à la formation des futurs professionnels de la santé, d’autres encore appuient la recherche de haut niveau ou renseignent les patients. Ces bibliothèques, souvent petites, ont développé l’entraide mutuelle et le maillage de leurs ressources. Pour offrir une information à la fine pointe, les imprimés coexistent avec des banques de données anciennes comme MEDLINE ou des supports récents comme les disques optiques compacts.
