Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

This chapter explores how the educational relationship of the self in Foucault implies a relationship to the other. In this context, part one reviews John Dewey’s challenge to the traditional conceptions of learning and highlights Dewey’s transition from his early writings to his later writings with his growing emphasis on experience. The second section focuses on Nel Noddings’ destabilization of a male-centered understanding of morality by highlighting the importance of relationships. Foucault’s thoughts are juxtaposed throughout the chapter to provide an avenue of reflective dialogue. This highlights how Foucault’s approach to subjectivity can provide an additional perspective to contemporary education ethics. It also highlights how Dewey and Noddings are complementary to Foucault’s ethics.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
