Abstract
Since launching the “open door” policy and economic reform in 1978, which gradually shifted its centrally planned economy to a market-oriented system, China has constantly been in the world’s spotlight. This focus was obvious during the successful hosting of the 2008 Summer Olympic Games, but most of this attention has been on China’s economic development over the past 38 years.
