Abstract
Le Droit de la libert, paru en 2011 en allemand, marque, prs de 20 ans aprs La Lutte pour la reconnaissance un moment-cl dans la pense d'Axel Honneth. Ce dernier ouvrage de 1992 dployait la notion hglienne de reconnaissance. S'appuyant sur la psychologie sociale de Mead et la thorie de la relation d'objet de Winnicott, il y distinguait, la suite du jeune Hegel, trois sphres d'interactions sociales au sein desquelles se dgagent trois modles de reconnaissance mutuelle (amour, droit, solidarit), toutes ncessaires, diffrents niveaux, l'acquisition de l'autonomie et au dveloppement d'un rapport pratique positif soi (confiance en soi, respect de soi, estime de soi). Ceci le menait poser les dnis de reconnaissance comme des pathologies, notamment des expriences concrtes de mpris, constituant, en grande partie, le coeur des conflits sociaux de la modernit. Dans la ligne de ce modle du conflit social, Honneth cherche laborer dans Le Droit de la libert une notion de la justice adapte un tel modle de lutte pour la reconnaissance. Cette nouvelle oeuvre opre, dans la construction de sa thorie de reconnaissance, deux dplacements. D'abord, la notion de reconnaissance semble subsume sous celle de libert : les diffrents modles de reconnaissance sont intgrs ce qu'il nomme la libert sociale . Ensuite, Honneth accorde une plus grande importance aux institutions modernes et leur histoire.
