Abstract
Il s’agit d’examiner les représentations divergentes du Québec comme société distincte faites par le Toronto Star et La Presse de Montréal lors des débats sur l’accord Meech en 1987. En nous appuyant sur une conception du discours journalistique comme dialogue, nous considérons la façon dont la peur d’une perte de pouvoir et le désir d’un pouvoir accru ont amené les Francophones et Anglophones canadiens à attribuer au terme de société distincte des sens différents.
