Abstract
Cet article aborde les différents courants de pensée concernant les bibliothèques nationales. Les rôles et responsabilités de la Bibliothèque nationale du Canada (BNC) sont expliqués en insistant sur les caractéristiques de ses collections, de ses services et de ses programmes. On y traite également des réalisations de la BNC, qui célèbre cette année ses 40 ans, dans les secteurs de la mise en commun des ressources et du développement des services de bibliothèque.
