Abstract
2013年6月12日～14日にカナダ・バンクーバー市で，International Symposium on Wood, Fibre and Pulping Chemistry2013（第17回木材化学・繊維化学・蒸解化学国際シンポジウム）がPAPTAC（カナダ紙パルプ技術協会）主催で開催された。大会には16か国から183名が参加した。口頭発表は11分野91件行われ，103件のポスター発表が行われた。本大会では，蒸解・漂白に関する研究や木材リファイナリー技術に関する研究発表が中心で，特に蒸解プロセスから副産するヘミセルロースおよびリグニンから付加価値の高い化学物質の製造技術，バイオエタノール生産前処理技術およびナノセルロース製造に関する研究発表が多かった。木質バイオマスのマテリアル利用の技術開発に注目が集まっている印象を受けた。本稿では，大会および研究発表の概要を中心に紹介する。
