Abstract
À la fin des années soixante-dix et au courant des années quatre-vingt, les études sur la peur du crime ont montré que, pourtant moins victimisés que d’autres groupes d’âges, les aînés se montraient cependant plus inquiets vis-à-vis du phénomène criminel et vis-à-vis des possibilités de victimisation. Leur mode de vie s’en trouvait affecté. Des programmes de sensibilisation et de prévention ont apparemment permis de redonner, au moins dans une certaine mesure, confiance aux personnes âgées. Cependant, les années quatre-vingt-dix voient surgir de nouvelles sources d’insécurité pour les personnes âgées. La menace ne leur est plus étrangère, elle émane de proches : les enfants, le propriétaire, l’intervenant en centre d’accueil. Quelles avenues de solution privilégier pour contrer ce nouveau fléau ? L’intervention pénale constitue-t-elle une solution ?
