Dans les institutions universitaires anglocanadiennes, les programmes de francais accueillent des etudiants de francais langue maternelle (desormais FLM) (les Franco-canadiens de souche, les etudiants internationaux ou les immigrants de nationalite francaise, belge, suisse, etc.), des etudiants de francais langue seconde (desormais FLS) (les Anglocanadiens de souche) et des etudiants de francais langue etrangere (desormais FLE) (les Italiens, les Polonais, etc.). Dans la presente etude, nous analysons les problemes normatifs rencontres par les etudiants de FLM, Canadiens de souche. Inscrits dans des institutions anglophones, ces etudiants recoivent non pas un enseignement de FLM (dans lequel un accent egal est mis sur la connaissance de la norme prescriptive et la valorisation de tous les registres de langue), mais plutot un enseignement de FLS et FLE (axe davantage sur la connaissance des regles de la langue ecrite « standard »). La norme du francais qui leur est enseigne combat la plupart des procedes linguistiques caracteristiques de la variete de francais qu’ils pratiquent naturellement et spontanement. Pourquoi les institutions universitaires anglocanadiennes operent-elles un tel choix ? Quelles sont ses consequences pour l’etudiant canadien de FLM? Que peut faire l’enseignant pour minimiser l’impact de l’ecart entre la norme « prescriptive » du francais academique et les normes d’usage du francais pratique par les etudiants canadiens de FLM ? Voila quelques-unes des questions auxquelles nous nous proposons d’apporter des elements de reponse.
