Antenna radiation bandwidth broadening using wideband double-layer partially reflective surfaces

Abstract
Periodic wideband double-layer partially reflective surfaces fed by a slot-coupled patch antenna for wideband high gain radiation is presented in this paper. The unit cell of the partially reflective surface has a positive phase gradient over a wide frequency band from 8.3 GHz to 11 GHz. The simulated results indicate that the antenna possesses a relative 3-dB gain bandwidth of 33.87%, from 7.97GHz to 11.22GHz, with a peak gain of 13.7dBi. The input impedance bandwidth is from 7.96 GHz to 11.62 GHz, which covers the 3-dB gain bandwidth. The presented design outperforms any previous trends in designing wide-band high gain antennas.
