Abstract
La lecture varie dans son intensité et dans ses objets parmi la population adulte québécoise. Les caractéristiques des lecteurs de périodiques et de livres sont tour à tour dégagées. Les habitudes de lecture, inégalement répandues dans les groupes sociaux, sont nettement plus enracinées chez les femmes, les jeunes, les personnes scolarisées et les anglophones. De plus, l’héritage culturel, les rôles sociaux, les cycles de la vie se révèlent dans les préférences en matière de lecture et dans la manière de se procurer des périodiques et des livres.
