Abstract
Cross laminated timber (CLT) construction is a wood wall and floor-ceiling construction method that enables the architect to design tall buildings made of renewable materials. The assemblies are constructed by laminating multiple layers of wood sheets together under pressure to create quasi-monolithic wood slabs. In 2014 we began laboratory experimentation on a 175mm CLT floor assembly, evaluating the efficacy of various floor build ups when tested according to ASTM E90 and ASTM E492. These test procedures evaluate sound transmission loss and impact insulation respectively. These floor build-up results were presented at the proceedings of Internoise 2015. Next steps were outlined in said paper and testing was completed in fall 2015. Data from the follow-up test series are presented here including quantifying the effect of various resiliently mounted ceiling assemblies with and without floor finish materials. The performance of poured concrete toppings of various densities and thicknesses was also evaluated.
