A comprehensive study on the cross-bowtie element has been made in this paper, for designing wideband circularly polarized (CP) reflectarray (RA) in the Ka-Band. Several parameters have been investigated on the element e.g. slant angle, oblique incidence, dielectric permittivity, and the bandwidth analysis. A λ/4 unit cell size has been used for the analysis. Smaller element will generate less phase errors at the RA surface and provides better antenna performance in terms of bandwidth and aperture efficiency. The element rotation technique has been used to obtain the phase characteristics of the unit cell. The cross bowtie element provides more than 30 % bandwidth, and low reflected wave amplitude losses. The element performance guarantees in resulting wider RA bandwidth and higher aperture efficiency, when used in Ka-Band RA design as an element.
