Abstract
Referring to its fertiliser and petroleum assets, Vale CEO Murilo Ferreira also confirmed the company was to go ahead with its strategy to divest non-value adding assets, the specifics of which would be revealed over the coming weeks. Just before going to press, [Vale] announced its Arauc[Dagger]ria nitrogen production operation in Brazil would be one of these assets, as it signed an agreement with Petr--leo Brasileiro S.A (Petrobras). Subject to conditions, the fertiliser business will be sold for $234m. Many companies have shown an interest. Just because it's not interesting for Vale doesn't mean it won't have a better owner elsewhere, Ferreira said. Vale added that it has a portfolio of growth options in potash and phosphates to meet Brazilian demand at Salitre, Canalita I and II in Brazil, and Bayovar II in Peru.
