Abstract
Neste artigo, apresento os resultados da pesquisa que venho desenvolvendo, desde julho de 2014, inserida no projeto Uma ordem de homens de religiao e de ciencia , que tem entre seus objetivos a analise de obras produzidas por missionarios jesuitas que atuaram tambem como homens de ciencia. Dentre eles, destaca-se o padre Jose Sanchez Labrador, autor da obra Paraguay Natural Ilustrado , na qual o missionario descreve a geografia, a fauna e a flora das regioes da Provincia Jesuitica do Paraguai em que atuou. Para o desenvolvimento da pesquisa, utilizei uma copia digitalizada do manuscrito da obra – ainda inedita –, que se encontra no Arquivo Romano da Sociedade de Jesus (ARSI), em Roma. A obra foi escrita entre 1771 e 1776 e se divide em quatro partes, sendo que me deterei na analise da quarta parte da obra, em que Sanchez Labrador descreve o emprego terapeutico de insetos, ressaltando suas virtudes e modos de preparo.
