Depuis quelques années, les jeunes de 16 à 24 ans issus de l’immigration sont en croissance dans les centres d’éducation des adultes (CEA) pour terminer leurs études secondaires en Formation générale des adultes (FGA), principalement dans la région montréalaise. Un certain nombre de ces apprenants arrive à la FGA directement des classes d’accueil du secteur de la Formation générale des jeunes (FGJ). Cet article présente le programme Français de transition (FDT), mis sur pied à la Commission scolaire de Montréal (CSDM) à partir des besoins documentés des jeunes de 16-24 ans issus de l‘immigration. L’article dresse un portrait des jeunes dans ce programme selon les perceptions de deux types d’acteurs : 1) une trentaine d’enseignants des secteurs de la FGJ et de la FGA ; 2) les jeunes du programme FDT eux-mêmes, rencontrées à six reprises en 2008-2009 au sein d’un « groupe de discussion », et qui font état de leur parcours migratoire, social et scolaire. L’article met en évidence la complémentarité des données recueillies auprès de ces deux catégories « d’acteurs ».
