Abstract
This issue of Ocula was inspired by two days of meetings, held on 18 and 19 May 2010 at the Scuola Superiore di Studi Umanistici (School for Advanced Studies in Humanities), Bologna, which Giovanna Franci helped me to devise but was unfortunately unable to attend. Along with certain of the protagonists of that event, we decided to propose this little tribute to a scholar we either personally or indirectly knew and appreciated, whose great merit was that of being a steadfast bridge between the various disciplines that are expressing their concern regarding the city. After a few years, the vision of the intellectual path of a scholar seems clearer, sharper; his or her legacy, influences, and numerous credits appear cleansed of all rhetoric of remembrance or pain.
