L’investissement dans la littératie : identités sociales et capital symbolique

Abstract
Le présent article discute la manière dont des personnes plurilingues comprennent leur investissement pour l’appropriation de pratiques littératiées, et notamment de lecture, dans des langues étrangères (le français et l’espagnol). Suivant une méthodologie qualitative et compréhensive, les analyses portent sur des discours écrits et oraux, tenus par trois étudiantes apprenant le français comme langue étrangère dans une université suisse, l’une d’origine suisse italienne et les deux autres d’origine canadienne anglophone. Les données montrent que les étudiantes ont conscience de deux types différents de capital symbolique, en lien avec leurs positionnements sociaux et leurs dynamiques identitaires : un capital linguistique et culturel d’une part, et un capital communicatif, d’autre part. Cette typologie influe sur les modes d’appropriation des étudiantes, en orientant leur investissement vers des pratiques langagières (et notamment littératiées) différentes.
