Abstract
S’il est vrai qu’un bon nombre de malades vivent leurs derniers jours de façon sereine, d’autres sont cependant plongés dans une angoisse indicible. Comment expliquer une telle variabilité ? Pouvons-nous intervenir plus efficacement ? La théorie de la « gestion de la terreur par l’estime de soi », formulée en 1986 par Solomon, Greenberg et Pyszczynski, offre un cadre théorique cohérent et fournit potentiellement des pistes d’intervention pertinentes à la pratique des soins palliatifs que nous tenterons d’explorer dans le présent article.
