Abstract
Bwami é uma associação de caráter político e religioso existente nas sociedades lega e bembe, situadas no sudeste da R. D. do Congo. A associação bwami tem sua origem nas tradições dos legas e de grupos correlatos. Ela existe em território lega e bembe e é fundamentada nos mesmos princípios estruturais, embora com divergências marcantes na nomenclatura, nas regras de organização e tipos de acessórios e objetos usados nos rituais de iniciação. Neste trabalho, apresentamos um estudo da produção material relacionada aos rituais de iniciação da bwami e de associações similares.
