Abstract
Les aides familiales résidantes entrant au Canada sont, pour la plupart d’entre elles, hautement scolarisées. Toutefois, elles vivent une déqualification professionnelle importante et le pays ne bénéficie pas du plein potentiel de ces femmes. Cette déqualification est en partie liée aux exigences du programme fédéral d’accueil des aides familiales résidantes, un programme qui bafoue les droits et libertés de ces femmes, notamment le droit à l’égalité. Ce droit peut se concevoir de deux façons : il y a l’égalité des places et l’égalité des chances. Alors que l’égalité des chances est le modèle qui prévaut actuellement au Canada, privilégier plutôt l’égalité des places apporterait une amélioration des conditions de travail des aides familiales. Ce modèle permettrait en outre de diminuer la déqualification professionnelle de cette catégorie de travailleuses migrantes, ce qui serait un avantage pour l’ensemble de la société canadienne.
