Cet article nous livre un aperçu complet de l’histoire peu connue des Chagos, lequel est vital pour bien comprendre pourquoi les anciens habitants de l’archipel se battent avec autant de vigueur pour retourner chez eux à la suite de l’installation d’une base militaire anglo-américaine sur une des îles de l’archipel, Diego Garcia et pourquoi leur droit de retour est légitime en vertu des principes légaux nationaux et internationaux. Cet exposé revient ainsi sur le contexte politique de l’installation de cette base militaire, mais aussi sur les voies empruntées par les Chagossiens au niveau national et international pour défendre leurs droits.
