Abstract
The singularity of being van Mari Ruti (hoogleraar kritische theorie aan de universiteit van Toronto) is een pageturner en een roller coaster die de lezer met verve en in adembenemende vaart meevoert langs ongeziene vergezichten op kliniek en ethiek, liefde en kunst. Onderweg passeren allerlei lacaniaanse concepten (o.a. Ding, jouissance, sinthoom) de revue. Het boek behelst vooral een psychoanalytische antropologie die in dialoog gaat met het denken van Levinas, Badiou en Žižek. Zoals bekend, ziet de laatste als doelstelling van de psychoanalyse de (ethisch te begrijpen en daarom van actie en ageren te onderscheiden) act: een moment waarbij men zich losrukt van de conventie en, voorbij goed en kwaad, in een soort heroisch gebaar, gaat voor het/zijn Ding. Ruti vindt dit wat te revolutionair gedacht. Veeleer komt het voor haar tot een inventie waarbij neologisch het Reele aan het Symbolisch-Imaginaire geknoopt wordt. Ik geef de lezer een aantal kernideeen en een soort stilistische voorproef.
