Auteur(s): GEUSENS E, LYSENS R, VYNCKE G, VAN WAMBEKE P | Samenvatting: Whiplashletsels komen vaak voor na een trauma met een acceleratie-deceleratiemechanisme.Deze letsels zijn vaak een indicatie voor het maken van röntgenfoto’s, zowel op een spoedgevallendienst, onmiddellijk na het trauma, als meer laattijdig, als de last meer chronisch wordt. De indicaties voor medische beeldvorming op het acute moment worden geïllustreerd aan de hand van de criteria volgens de multicentrische NEXUS-studie en de Canadian C-spine rule. Er wordt een kort overzicht gegeven welke röntgenfoto’s moeten gemaakt worden. De zin en onzin van flexie/extensie-opnamen op het acute moment en meer laattijdig, alsook het nut van meer geavanceerde beeldvorming zoals CT-scan en MRI worden besproken.
