Soulignons d'emblée la principale faiblesse de cet ouvrage, à savoir sa longueur excessive. Si l'exhaustivité et l'érudition ne constituent évidemment pas des maux en soi, ces 1200 pages de texte témoignent dans le cas présent d'une dilution abusive du propos et de la confusion d'un plan générateur de répétitions.
