Abstract
Alors que l’interlocutrice à qui s’adresse l’épistolière mise en scène dans un roman épistolaire monophonique de Mlle Poulain de Nogent peut sembler absente par son silence, elle constitue au contraire un élément central du circuit intime qui se déploie dans cette structure romanesque. Les questions, les reproches, les recommandations, les félicitations et les bons vœux qu’adresse la narratrice à sa confidente en donnent une image tantôt de guide, tantôt de juge, mais toujours d’amie intéressée. La présente étude se propose d’étudier comment la présence de l’interlocutrice absente se manifeste à travers les renvois indirects que consigne le discours de réaction que tient la narratrice et de déterminer comment se tisse une relation affective et se construit une rhétorique amicale à travers une seule voix.
