Abstract
Aprs Windsheim en 1963 et Rothenbourg en 1999, voici donc la troisime ville libre d'Empire franconienne dont la Socit d'Histoire de la Franconie dite les chartes. Si, comme dans les deux entreprises prcdentes, il ne s'agit que de l'dition de rgestes (aussi bien et-il t difficile de procder autrement tant donne l'ampleur de la documentation, qui rassemble presque 1200 pices), cette fois en revanche les documents n'ont pas t rassembls selon le principe (dpass) de la pertinence mais selon lui de la provenance -appliqu pour les seules chartes antrieures 1493. L'application de ce principe par U.J. est d'autant plus mritoire que les fonds de la commune de Wissembourg sont aujourd'hui disperss ; en effet, non seulement aprs l'annexion de la ville libre d'Empire par le royaume de Bavire en 1806 une bonne part de ses archives ont t transfres Munich, mais elles y ont t disperses en fonction du principe de pertinence alors appliqu.
