La littérature pour enfants, encore peu étudiée à l’université en France, a pourtant été défrichée par une génération de hercheurs « pionniers » parmi lesquels Isabelle Nières-Chevrel, professeur à l’université Rennes 2 de 1969 à 2004, occupe une place essentielle. Ce volume rassemble près d’une vingtaine de contributions qui lui sont offertes en hommage au travail accompli durant ces années de recherche, et surtout dans l’idée d’un fécond passage de relais entre les générations. Parmi ces « jeunes » chercheurs, plusieurs sont ou ont été ses étudiants, beaucoup se sont nourris de ses réflexions, tous incarnent la force d’une génération désormais convaincue que le livre destiné à l’enfance mérite un regard critique aussi aigu et exigeant que les formes littéraires et artistiques les plus légitimées. Formes éditoriales, réécritures et traductions, interprétations par l’image, illustration et création graphique pour l’enfance : tous les sujets qui ont fait l’objet des travaux d’Isabelle Nières-Chevrel trouvent ici des prolongements divers et neufs, portés par des chercheurs français mais aussi belges, suisses, allemands, espagnols, anglais, canadiens ou américains.
