Dans cet article, l’auteur tente de démontrer que la compréhension de la situation de l’immigrant en processus d’intégration, du point de vue psychologique et culturel, est une donnée essentielle à prendre en considération lors d’une intervention en alphabétisation. Une approche centrée sur l’apprenant doit nécessairement se moduler en fonction des principaux moments du trajet migratoire et tenir compte des changements psychosociaux vécus par l’immigrant. Dans cette perspective, l’alphabétisation déborde le simple transfert de connaissances et nécessite une formation appropriée de la part des intervenants, ainsi qu’une plus grande consultation entre les différentes communautés culturelles et les organismes éducatifs de la société d’accueil.
