Abstract
Unsettled, de Scott Walden, est le produit d’un ete passe a Terre-Neuve a photographier les vestiges de communautes cotieres abandonnees, desolation qui fait suite a des programmes gouvernementaux cherchant a centraliser la population dispersee de la nouvelle province canadienne. Le livre qui en resulte, Places Lost: In Search of Newfoundland's Resettled Communities, reunit une quarantaine d’images reproduites en deux tons, de meme que des photographies d’epoque des communautes avant leur deplacement. En plus d’offrir des elements historiques, le livre fait usage de la photographie pour transmettre le sentiment de perte de lieu evoque par les traces physiques, ainsi que la maniere dont les objets acquierent du sens en recouvrant leurs vies passees.
