Abstract
Correspondant ce qu'on a appel l'ge d'or de la presse (Smythe 2003 ; Charle 2004, p. 136), le passage du XIX e au XX e sicle a connu une diffusion sans prcdent des ides, unissant les continents par le biais des imprims. Malgr son implantation tardive, la presse brsilienne de la fin du XIX e a rejoint ce circuit d'informations aux circulations intenses, favoris par l'utilisation commerciale du tlgraphe. L'arrive quotidienne des tlgrammes avec leurs nouvelles toutes fraches, allie la traditionnelle importation de journaux trangers, dynamise le march de la presse, tout en mettant en place de nouveaux modles de journalisme. C'est pendant cette priode que le sensationnalisme atteint son premier pic au Brsil. Deux matrices trangres sont l'oeuvre -l'une est amricaine, l'autre est franaise. Malgr un dcalage perceptible dans le temps, c'est le modle franais de la presse sensation qui semble davantage avoir captiv le lecteur brsilien, avec son ton ouvertement littraire et sociologique qui entend fouiller la nature humaine, la recherche des raisons qui mneraient la dgnrescence morale , pour utiliser une expression en vogue dans le discours hyginiste .
