Abstract
This paper analyses the development of the publishing industry in Monterrey through two journals, published by French editor Desiderio Lagrange: La Revista (1881), and La Revista de Monterrey (1881-1886). Lagrange was the owner of a typographic establishment in the capital of the Mexican state of Nuevo Leon, during the last quarter of the 19th Century. At first, Lagrange operated a hand press, used to print weekly and biweekly literary issues; but later, in 1882, he introduced a cylindrical press (probably a steam printing press), thus releasing the first journal in the history of the state.
