Abstract
Pendant architectonique et epistemologique du roman du legs des peres qu’est L’amour, la fantasia (1985), le premier volume du projet de “quartet algerien” d’Assia Djebar, Vaste est la prison (1995) privilegie le legs des femmes mais, comme une photographie que l’on developpe, cette primaute ne se revele que lentement par couches successives d’accents, d’echos et de sillages entrecroises des recits. D’une structure en apparence eparse et dodecaphonique, le roman joue sur le rythme narratif et sur les points d’intersection de quatre chronotopes (chronotopes de la vie intime de la narratrice dans la “Premiere Partie”, de l’heritage linguistique antique de l’Algerie dans la seconde, de la genealogie familiale de la narratrice dans la troisieme et enfin de sa relation a la guerre civile des annees 1990) pour inviter et dejouer les tentatives de lecture suivie de la transmission du savoir des femmes.
