Abstract
Si l’on suit la tension dynamique entre document et fiction du récit de guerre, trois tendances dominent la période succédant à l’âge d’or des collections paralittéraires spécialisées. Premièrement, plusieurs collections dirigées par Jeannine Balland occupent le centre de l’espace éditorial du récit de guerre. Elles proposent une formule caractérisée par le récit non-fictionnel et sa très explicite présentation conjuguant information et épopée, la préférence nationale comme principe de sélection, la promotion d’ex-praticiens du combat en hommes de plume, rassemblés en écurie, et baignant dans un climat idéologique d’extrême-droite, un volumineux format et ses rééditions en poche. Deuxièmement, le technothriller anticipateur, importé des USA, monte en puissance ainsi que des anticipations, décrochements fantastiques et uchronies militaires françaises. Troisièmement, c’est dans une rétrospectivité ambivalente que le cinéma conjoint effet documentaire et effet fictionnel – épisodes peu connus, guerres oubliées, guerres de décolonisation, après-coup de 14-18. En BD, le modèle américain antérieur s’estompe et la formule Balland n’a pas de corrélat. Face au virage documentaire, minoritaire, la fiction résiste et domine. Toutefois la tradition est moins bousculée par le virage documentaire que par des déplacements innovants. Ainsi, à côté d’une anglomanie nostalgisante, Le trou d’obus de Tardi fait époque, un « tropisme italien » et un « tropisme hispanique » s’imposent.
