Cet article met en perspective des études récentes qui se réalisent à travers le monde sur les effets positifs des environnements Snoezelen auprès des personnes dépendantes en institution. Les participants qui bénéficient de ces enveloppes thérapeutiques sont des enfants, adolescents et adultes présentant une déficience intellectuelle avec troubles associés, y compris les personnes ayant des troubles envahissant du développement ou présentant de l’instabilité émotionnelle. Ces soins s’adressent aussi aux personnes âgées ayant des démences et aux personnes présentant des troubles psycho-comportementaux et psychiatriques. Les résultats d’une étude à l’autre sont variés, mais pour la plupart d’entre elles, il est noté qu’une régulation émotionnelle est constatée. Et, il semble qu’une relation entre les stimulations sensorielles et la réduction de troubles du comportement soit établie. Dans tous les cas, Snoezelen semble favoriser la relaxation, la détente, l’apaisement psychique, tout en procurant aux individus un état de bien-être.
