Le rôle des conseillers aux étudiants en situation de handicap à l’université : perspective multidisciplinaire

Abstract
Les établissements postsecondaires québécois font face à une hausse de la population étudiante en situation de handicap, dite émergente. Pour ces étudiants, le choix de poursuivre des études universitaires constitue un défi étant donné leurs besoins diversifiés et les exigences relatives à leurs programmes d’études. Pour soutenir et accompagner ces étudiants en situation de handicap (ESH) dans leur parcours de formation, de nouvelles expertises s’avèrent nécessaires. Cet article présente les résultats d’une recherche collaborative menée dans trois universités québécoises, auprès de six conseillères aux ESH ayant une expertise dans le domaine de l’orientation professionnelle ou de l’orthopédagogie. La visée de cette recherche est de définir les principales composantes du rôle des conseillers qui accompagnent les ESH et leur contribution respective en fonction des besoins de ces étudiants. Bien que les deux groupes de professionnels semblent pouvoir répondre à l’ensemble de ces besoins et que les spécificités de leur expertise respective s’avèrent un atout indéniable, certaines composantes de l’accompagnement nécessitent d’être offertes par d’autres ressources, soulignant ainsi la diversité et la complexité de leurs besoins.
