Abstract
Loops of myocardial cells were modelled as closed continuous cables, using an Hodgkin-Huxley representation of the electrical properties of the membrane. The bifurcation structure of the unidirectional propagation was studied as a function of the radius of the loop. With parameters of the ionic model at their nominal values, period doubling was detected prior to reaching the critical radius where circulation cannot be sustained. Injection of a bias current may modify the bifurcation structure. AS the loop was shortenned transition to an aperiodic regime was detected in a range of bias current intensities. This is related to the presence of an hyperpolarized phase near the end of the action potential.
