Abstract
The Carry On films form part of Britain’s rich comic heritage. They are directly linked to the popular culture traditions of music halls, Donald McGill’s saucy seaside postcards, and the comedies of Will Hay and George Formby, the social dramas of Gracie Fields, Ealing Studios, Rank Studios, the Boulting Brothers and The Belles of St Trinians . Gerrard discusses how these traditions gave rise to, and impacted upon, the Carry On films. These keywords were added by machine and not by the authors.
