En Bulgarie, les archives et manuscrits de la période ottomane forment un patrimoine considérable, conservé au Département des collections orientales (Département oriental) de la Bibliothèque nationale « Sts.-Cyrille et Méthode » (NBKM). Celui-ci possède un fonds très riche de documents d’archives en turc ottoman, mais aussi des matériaux en arabe et en persan, ainsi que des ouvrages manuscrits et des éditions rares de livres imprimés.
