This paper presents three different input paradigms for continuous parameter control during semi-automated live-wire segmentation of medical images. The users were given control over the cost function parameter (CFP) that calculates the least cost path on the fly in order to get the best user-preferred path between a previously selected point and the current mouse location. Paradigms explored for controlling the CFP include the use of sliders on the graphical user interface, and a combined bimanual system involving the scroll wheel of a mouse and keyboard keys. In addition, a zooming function was offered to allow the user to select seed points in higher precision. Quantitative and qualitative results indicate that the bimanual paradigm was the most popular as well as the most effective.
