Abstract
Le présent article examine la question des fondements du nationalisme par rapport au trilemme de Münchhausen, en tentant d’établir la dimension discursive du nationalisme qui se réalise idéalement dans un espace public ouvert. Nous critiquons le « nationalisme ontologique » et sa fâcheuse tendance à proclamer la « déjà-nation », soit une nation sans possibilité de connaissance pour les sujets, les discours individuels sur la nation étant alors immédiatement bloqués par une interprétation déjà-vraie de la nation. Une telle interprétation de la déjà-nation fait fi de la distinction entre le cadre interprétatif général qu’est le nationalisme et les propositions qui en découlent, ces propositions étant de la seule responsabilité des individus. La nation est en fait la représentation même du pouvoir du langage, n’existant qu’à l’intérieur d’un filet de sens créé par les discours nationalistes dans la sphère publique.
