Le transport en commun en site propre (TCSP) est une famille de modes de déplacement, comme le système rapide par bus, le tramway ou le métro, qui sont attractifs pour les voyageurs et qui permettent aux instances régionales de structurer l'urbanisation et les activités humaines sur leur territoire. Toutefois, ils requièrent d'importants coûts de construction et d'opération, ce qui peut retarder ou annihiler leur réalisation. Le projet de tramway de la Ville de Montréal, reliant le centre-ville au quartier Côte-des-Neiges, a par exemple déraillé pour cette raison. Or, d'après l'expérience de plusieurs villes extérieures au Québec, il semble possible d'optimiser un projet de TCSP pour qu'il soit plus efficient mais tout autant efficace, c'est-à-dire moins onéreux mais capable de répondre adéquatement à la demande de mobilité. La recherche propose alors une méthode d'optimisation et l'applique à titre d'exemple sur le projet de tramway montréalais. Ce processus a permis de concevoir un projet optimisé plus fonctionnel aux déplacements des personnes et plus abordable sur le long terme à l'investissement et à l'exploitation que le projet initial. Bien que plus court, le tracé optimisé justifie le besoin d'un tramway par le niveau estimé d'achalandage. Néanmoins, la méthode d'optimisation a présenté quelques limites, comme le manque de données, et le projet optimisé reste une échauche, puisque les solutions optimisées ont seulement été développées à un stade de préfaisabilité. \n______________________________________________________________________________ \nMOTS-CLÉS DE L’AUTEUR : optimisation, projet, transport en commun, tramway, montréal.
