Dans le contexte d’un relatif renouveau économique et du maintien des inégalités socio-spatiales, il apparaît [...] important d’étudier comment le travail pauvre [...] a évolué [à Montréal], quelles populations de travailleurs sont les plus touchées par le phénomène et comment les travailleurs pauvres se distribuent dans l’espace de la région montréalaise. Pour répondre à ces interrogations, la présente étude se base sur des données de recensement pour la période 2001-2006 et sur des données de l’Agence du revenu du Canada pour la période 2006-2012. Son originalité est qu’elle est menée dans le cadre d’un partenariat de recherche (le Partenariat de recherche sur les quartiers en transition – PRQT) financé par le CRSH et dont l’objet est l’étude de l’évolution sur une longue période des inégalités de revenu et de leurs effets sur les villes canadiennes. Les bases de données du Partenariat fournissent ainsi l’accès à plusieurs échelles géographiques. La présente étude tire largement avantage de cette caractéristique particulière attachée aux données. Elle repose sur une définition du travail de pauvre [...] dont le principal objectif est de cibler les personnes dont les revenus dépendent principalement de leur participation au marché de l’emploi.
