El presente articulo da cuenta de la participacion del Trabajo Social con personas que viven con VIH-SIDA (PVVIH-SIDA). En el se muestran la aparicion y el desarrollo del Trabajo Social dentro del campo de la salud y al mismo tiempo la intervencion psicosocial frente a las personas viviendo con VIHSIDA. Los trabajadores sociales han desempenado un papel importante en materia de intervencion en VIH y su intervencion los ha enfrentado a sus propios prejuicios y valores. Hoy, la pandemia confronta al Trabajo Social a un cambio demografico importante: una poblacion que aumenta su esperanza de vida resultado de las terapias «antirretrovirales» (TARV), y a un crecimiento potencial de la proporcion de esta poblacion en condiciones de pobreza, lo que significara una pesada carga de trabajo para los trabajadores sociales. Las practicas de intervencion de los trabajadores sociales con enfasis en la interdisciplinariedad los distinguen como una profesion de apertura y adecuacion a los nuevos problemas sociales
