Abstract
Depuis les années 1990, les institutions carcérales se construisent selon des impératifs managériaux et se dotent de dispositifs technologiques permettant de contrôler à la fois les détenus, le personnel de l’établissement et ses visiteurs. Cet article propose de s’intéresser au virage sécuritaire pris par le monde carcéral à travers l’étude d’une technologie particulière : le Body Orifice Security Scanner (BOSS). À partir d’une description de ce dispositif de sécurité, nos réflexions nous conduisent à nous questionner sur ce choix technologique semblant a priori pouvoir se substituer à la pratique controversée de la fouille, au cœur des tensions entre droits et sécurité en prison. Or, la production d’effets divergeant de ses objectifs initiaux ainsi que son design particulier, nous amènent à envisager le BOSS comme une technologie sécuritaire de gouvernement, rappel quotidien du véritable boss en prison. 1
