Abstract
Hubert Aquin est reconnu comme l’un des plus grands écrivains québécois, mais il est moins connu comme réalisateur et producteur de l’Office national du film. En 1960, Hubert Aquin demande à Roland Barthes d’écrire le commentaire de son film Le sport et les hommes , afin de souligner l’aspect théâtral du sport et d’en questionner la spectacularisation. Barthes accepte ce projet tout à fait en accord avec sa réflexion sur les Mythologies , dont il vient de publier un aspect en 1957. Cet article propose de comprendre dans quelles conditions le film a été produit, avant de le comparer avec d’autres films sur le sport de la même époque (principalement La lutte [Michel Brault, Marcel Carrière, Claude Fournier, Claude Jutra, 1961] et Vive le Tour! [Louis Malle, 1962]), afin de mettre en évidence des visions différentes du medium cinématographique.
