Handwavey: A Gestural Motion Password Interface

Abstract
Handwavey is an innovative gestural authentication method, enabling users to set a motion password and attempt to authenticate to a system based acceleration recorded from 6 degrees-of-freedom motion. Using dynamic time warping, we are able to compare two passwords which may differ in total time. Preliminary tests show great success allowing a user to authenticate, while denying access to other users. Due to kinesthetic memory, a Handwavey password is safe from onlookers and also from users that are taught the correct password. Further tests are required to study the effects of day-today and long-term muscle change.
