Transfer capacity plays a vital role in both planning and operation of power system with respect to system security. The purpose of transfer capacity computation is to determine the amount of lost generation which can be replaced by system reserves and the limiting constraints in each circumstance. This paper presents a software solution of total transfer capacity (TTC) calculator embedded in energy management system (EMS). Different from the existing TTC solutions which perform calculation on a single specific snapshot, the calculation analysis can be performed at multiple predefined time points in both real-time mode and study mode. For verification, the transfer path limits of nine interties in Canada and US are studied. Accurate TTC values are acquired by identifying the transfer margin of these lines from their voltage stability limit, transient stability limit, as well as thermal limit with the outage schedules and load resource balance considered.
