L' Ambrosia artemisiifolia L. apparaît en ce début de millénaire comme un des fléaux écologiques les plus menaçants pour la région Rhône-Alpes. L'ambroisie, c'est son nom courant, est responsable, entre la mi-août et la mi-septembre, de nombreuses allergies respiratoires, oculaires et mêmes cutanées. La région Rhône-Alpes et surtout la vallée du Rhône semblent les plus concernées en France avec près de 8% de la population exposée qui est touchée. La plante, originaire de l'Amérique du nord, s'est développée dans de nombreux pays des deux hémisphères. Outre le Canada et les Etats-Unis on la retrouve en Europe de l'Est, en Asie, en Amérique du sud ainsi qu'en Nouvelle-Zélande. Elle a débarqué en France en 1865, mélangée à du trèfle, mais c'est surtout dans la seconde moitié du XXème siècle qu'elle se multiplia massivement à la faveur de nombreuses campagnes de travaux ainsi que de politiques agricoles, notamment européennes. Les traitements médicamenteux pour lutter contre cette pollinose sont symptomatologiques et ne se différencient pas des traitements pour les autres allergies. La prolifération massive d'ambroisie est un véritable problème de santé publique qui, de plus, possède un coût très important. Petit à petit certains pouvoirs publics locaux prennent les dispositions qui s'imposent, mais il reste encore une législation nationale ou Européenne à mettre en place. Le pharmacien d'officine possède un rôle capital à mener, il doit être une source d'information sans faille afin d'assurer une prévention efficace. En effet il doit pouvoir expliquer comment reconnaître un plant d'ambroisie et il doit pouvoir informer les patients sensibles sur la teneur en pollen d'ambroisie de l'air, afin qu'ils puissent échapper aux conséquences cliniques. La lutte contre l'ambroisie est engagée, mais seule une intervention nationale aurait la capacité financière et logistique pour pouvoir éradiquer ce fléau qui menace toute la France et même toute l'Europe.
